Keeping up with current trends is always a challenge. The world of fashion moves fast, and it’s important not only to keep up, but to always be a few steps ahead. International trend forecasters publish their reports well in advance and we’ve put together the 5 absolute key trends you should be aware of ahead of next season.
Let’s take a closer look at the key trends for the men’s category in spring and summer 2025.
Futuristic surrealism
We’re currently seeing a heavy focus on technology and technological advances. AI development is particularly prominent in public debate, and looks set to continue to fascinate and generate debate also next year. The focus on technology is influencing fashion, triggering a prediction of a trend towards future fantasies.
Futuristic and dreamlike elements will dominate this season’s designs through both dramatic and oversized silhouettes. Think science-fiction aesthetics with more-than-human features and architectural flair, but with a modern twist in terms of texture and usability.
Nostalgic graphics
The nostalgia factor is clearly present in this trend. Cartoon-like patterns, bright colours and references to 90s and 2000s gaming aesthetics in graphic prints create a sense of escapism that provides a playful respite from modern adult life. “More is more” is entering the men’s fashion scene with this trend, but this also goes well with more subtle elements for extra contrast in the outfit.
Ornamentation and an eye for detail
The environment is always at the forefront of most people’s minds these days, and a theme that is clearly evident in SS25. This trend points to an interest in upcycling clothes and textiles, which is reflected in beautiful embroidery, lace and a focus on ornamental details. The trend is shaped by a mix of craft traditions and can be found on everything from classic blazers to white shirts and good old-fashioned home knitwear.
Punk DIY
Activism is a big influencer in this trend, with punk elements creeping into both the catwalk and everyday clothes. Rough and androgynous rock elements add an extra sense of youthful rebellion and creativity. These elements can be styled together with softer, more subtle elements to create a playful sense of contrast in the outfit. In many ways, the trend can be seen as a tribute to the late designer Vivienne Westwood, who set the standard for the punk aesthetic in its infancy and always used her collections as an activist platform.
Patchwork, rough lines and a homespun feel also go hand-in-hand with the previous trend where DIY and upcycling take centre stage.
Nature with a twist
Expecting floral patterns throughout the spring and summer seasons is nothing new. “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking”; the sarcastic quote from the iconic film the Devil Wears Prada quickly comes to mind, but expect new ways of thinking about natural elements and floral prints in SS25.
Earthy tones and soft looks meet oversized natural elements in perfect harmony. The style is a nod back to surrealist trends, and serves as a perfect contrast to the more hard techno-centred movement we’re also seeing emerge this season.
