Key trends for women – spring and summer 2025

Next year’s spring and summer seasons clearly reflect the development of AI technology, global political uncertainty and nostalgia. We’ve also seen a need for escapism throughout the autumn and winter seasons, a theme set to continue in multiple ways in SS25. There’s no doubt that fashion will be dominated by a certain amount of solemnity and technological influence, yet also counterbalanced with space for earthiness, creativity and an almost childlike playfulness.

In the world of fashion, it’s important to keep up with the latest trends, not just in real time, but several seasons ahead.

The yearly trend reports try to predict what the next period will bring based on what’s happening in the cultural zeitgeist. To make this information a little less overwhelming, we’ve compiled the 5 absolute key trends predicted for the 2025 spring and summer season.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the clearest trends emerging in the women’s category.

Surrealism

With the recent advances in AI technology, we’re seeing a more dreamy and surreal trend with historical elements. This trend allows for more-than-human proportions and silhouettes reminiscent of elements from the Renaissance and Baroque eras.

Where a more down-to-earth, minimalist trend would be about lightweight fabrics that accentuate the body’s silhouette, we are seeing a tendency to let the proportions of the clothes play out in an almost architectural way – without limits. Unexpected cuts, oversized elements and sculptural references dominate the summer’s trends.

Nostalgic graphics

With the sense of gravity and uncertainty about the world situation comes a need for escapism and nostalgia for childhood and naivety, a theme this trend clearly embraces. Bright, bold colours and graphic prints that reference game graphics, abstraction and stylised drawings allow for playfulness in the run-up to summer – which is nicely styled together with more neutral and classic elements to really add a pop of colour.

Tactile ornamentation

Another trend is an interest in good craftsmanship, DIY and traditional motifs. A focus on detailed ornamentation and distinctive textures are set to dominate the season. We see this in knitwear, but also in embroidery, lace and other craft details on everything from dresses to shirts and skirts. A handcrafted, tactile feel and traditional patterns play on the need for nostalgia and a sense of earthiness.

Punk DIY

With political uncertainty and increasing activist involvement, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing a trend towards punk. In homage to the late Vivienne Westwood, we’re seeing the introduction of rougher, rockier looks for the summer season. Elements of patchwork and an imperfect homespun feel emit an aura of youthful rebellion and playfulness. The trend looks great on its own, but also paired with calmer elements to brighten up an otherwise subtle look.

Dreamy nature

With an ever-increasing focus on environmental protection in fashion and society in general, this is a trend that reflects a general desire to achieve closer contact with the natural world. Soft, flowing colours and cuts that nod towards a more bohemian and rural look are mixed with classic cuts. A perfect counterbalance to the more techno-focussed and graphically ostentatious trends we see developing in parallel.
